Is there an institution more embarrassing than the Chief Rabbinate of the Israel Defense Forces?
This man-- ostensibly, a Jew -- is selected by the IDF to be a fig leaf, a quisling, a useful idiot.
Just consider who's been tapped to fill the post --
Former Chief 'Rabbi' Avichai Ronski (turned politico last year), who stated that his adopted Jewish Home Party had "more in common with Lapid than with the Charedim."
Many were aghast at the comment, but we were non-plussed. The man simply speaks the truth.
Indeed, Ronski's secular predilections are representative of a great majority of the religious Zionist public, who deify the Israeli state and its institutions, and make an outright god of that pussycat fighting force known as the IDF. Much like secular Israelis do.
Incidentally, Guru Ronski just announced he's following in the path of so many before him who closed out their army service with an extended trip to the far east. You can read about the vainglorious one's planned search for meaning in the Himalayas this summer here.
Consider, too, his replacement. The beardless and full throated Rafi Peretz, who danced with disengagement soldiers as they headed off to destroy the lives and property of 10,000 Jews in Gush Katif a decade ago.
Peretz, of course, also resided in Gush Katif, a fact that makes his appointment -- as well as his acceptance of the job -- outright odious. Here's a man who every day permits himself to be pimped out to the nation in order to whitewash arguably the most shameful event in the state's already dishonorable history -- the 'disengagement'.
Where's the self-respect?
Speaking of which, 'Rabbi' Yisrael Weiss was Yoni-on-the-spot when the disengagement actually occurred. And what did this Chief Rabbi of the IDF have to say about that notorious mission?
Precisely the following:
"Ariel Sharon and Dan Halutz [then chief of staff] lied to me."
Oh, really?
Boy genius.
And what did they tell you? That everything would be all right?
Clown.
